Do you remember Flo from my trip to Toulouse?
Well I promised a follow up post of Florian and his friends that I shot back in May, but hadn’t got around to doing as other things came along. Sorry Guys! So let’s get on with it.
The guy in the top shot wasn’t looking favourably at me when I started shooting. I think he was wondering what I was up to.
The hypnotists seemed to use similar techniques to hypnotise their subjects. Don’t ask me how they do it, I have no idea, and if I did I would probably use it to hypnotise rich people into giving me their wallets. One thing thing that was the same amongst them all was how quietly and smoothly they spoke to the subjects. I have grouped them into what the subject was doing whilst hypnotised so you can follow through, rather than it being a jumble.
The hypnotists in these shots seem to be getting people to raise their arms, and under hypnosis mot be able to put them down. The girl below was smiling several times throughout this session which made it seem that she was acting, but I assure she wasn’t.
A similar effect is being shown here. I showed this in Flo’s post, where the hypnotist gets the subject to place their fingers together, and then they can’t separate them, however hard they try.
You can see how gentle the hypnotists seem to be. Not being forceful at all, just gently speaking, holding the subjects attention at all times. It’s funny when you look at the shot that it looks like they are having a normal conversation, and she is sitting there with her hands together, when in reality she cannot separate her fingers.
The next two shots are the girl that Flo was joining the fingers of by pretending to screw them together. She is trying as hard as she can to separate them, but finding it impossible. You can see she is not stressed but smiling.
When Flo allows her to release them, I think the the laughter is a mixture of relief and the fact that she probably didn’t believe she would have been unable to separate her fingers. You can see by her face that she really enjoyed the experience.
Some people asked me I had been hypnotised. Well, I don’t drink, I don’t do drugs, and I even try not to fall asleep so that I have full control of my actions. So to allow a stranger to control what I do, whilst others look on laughing is not for me. Luckily for us there are plenty of people who enjoy the experience.
What is happening with these people seems to be a bit more intense. The girl above’s stare is so intense, whereas the guy below seems further along with his head dropped. It’s as if he’s asleep.
This girl seems to need some support, or it is part of the hypnotic process and by holding her shoulders there is more trust from her, and also a feeling of relaxation.
You can see her in the shot at the top of the page, which was taken after this, so there were no ill effects.
It’s has if this guy has dropped off to sleep standing up. I was wondering what would happen if the hypnotist walked away. How long would the guy stand there? Would it be a permanent affect?
Here we go, you can see Flo, the main man, in full flow. I call him the main man as he was the one I spoke with and the earlier post was about him. If you have read the earlier post you may notice that in the shot where the girls is running away laughing, the girl she is running past has a striped shirt. This is the girl that Flo has hypnotised. The girl watching them is the one who was running away laughing in the previous post.
The hypnotist has taken a good supportive stance to hold up this guy. He just seems to have gone limp.
As well as the hypnotist there was also a mentalist. From what I understand he is able to manipulate your mind, for want of another word. He was using playing cards and I think power of persuasion. I didn’t get any “in action” shots of him as he was working close in with so many people around.
We’ve all seen hypnotists on the TV, and the way they get their subjects to do silly things. I didn’t see this so much but there were a few that brought a lot of spectators and here are a couple of them that had those same spectators in stitches with laughter.
The hypnotist was talking to the guy in the rabbit costume. Don’t ask, I have no idea why he was dressed up as a rabbit.
Here you can see that the hypnotist has him fully under his control. He then woke him up, and the guy stood there smiling as if there was nothing wrong and he was just a member of the public. Then the hypnotist said something to him, and from what I saw it was to act as a rabbit. The guy looked around saw one of the onlookers and lifted his arms so that they were like the front legs of a rabbit and began to hop over to him. When he reached the man he began gyrating against him, as a rabbit would do whilst mating. The hypnotist called him then he hopped to someone else, and began doing it again. The audience were in hoots of laughter. The hypnotist called him once again, and he hopped alongside him. He then turned towards him and started gyrating against him. The crowd were in hysterics. The hypnotist whispered something to him and he returned to resting his head against his shoulder.
I saw this girl and was wondering what was happening. I didn’t realise at first that she had been hypnotised. I watched as she spoke to the guy in front of her.
I realised when I saw her pretending to write on an imaginary pad that she was hypnotised. All the people around her were laughing and she was smiling herself. I thought then that she must have been playing out the role of an autograph hunter.
When I spoke to Florian after this I asked him if she was an autograph hunter, and he laughed and replied, “No, the hypnotist had told her she was a Police Officer, and the guy had committed an offence!”
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with these guys. You could see they really enjoyed what they were doing, and entertained both the willing subjects and the crowds that passed. They played little jokes with the subjects but never demeaned them in any way. Thanks once again guys, especially Florian for taking the time to explain things to me, and for all of you being really nice guys.
Don’t forget, if you are ever in Toulouse, look out for Flo and his friends.
